I am sure ms Kinney has many fine qualities, however, being a writer is not one of them. If all you had to do to write a book is say either a) "I heard a story, but I don't know anything about it. or b)"Look it up at such and such website", we could all be writers. Unfortunately, it takes more than that. I was bored by the first page.Tags : Amazon.com: Haunted Virginia: Legends, Myths, and True Tales (9780764332814): Pamela K. Kinney: Books,Pamela K. Haunted Virginia Legends Myths and True Tales Pamela K Kinney Books Reviews
For anyone who's into haunted stories and history of the past, this is a great book!
A choppy, awkward read, poorly written and edited.
I was really disappointed to find that Southern Virginia is completely left out of the book. No mention is made of Pittsylvania County, or the Danville area. Danville was the last capital of the Confederacy, and is full of hauntings. The main focus of the book seems to be Richmond and the Tidewater region.
"Haunted Virginia Legsnds, Myths, and True Tales" satisfies in all areas history, legend and myth. Author Pamela Kinney has assembled a collection of myths and legends about the state of Virginia that one can revisit time and again and still be entertained and informed. Just some of these tales are the werewolves of the Richmond area, the eerie thing in the raincoat seen by some young men and women at Fort Story, the truth about dogs and sailors being told to keep off the grass in Norfolk, Virginia, and the wonderful witch stories Virginians have been telling for centuries. She delves into one myth, the Bunnyman, and through researching old newspaper accounts and more modern news stories, examines the sociology of myths and how the myth that inspired a motion picture (Donnie Darko) got started.
I've always been a sucker for books about ghosts, etc., and this is one of the best I've come across in quite a while. Since I am a native of Virginia (born in Richmond in - I shudder to admit it - 1945) it was of particular interest to me. Great stuff, including some little known, but interesting facts about one of my favorite authors of the macabre, Edgar Allen Poe. If you love ghosts, goblins and just plain spooky stuff, this book is for you - a real winner. BOO! As the Twig is Bent
